Gigaliner trial in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania: Again prolonged for another year.
22 Dec 2009. Shortly after the German federal state of Schleswig-Holstein allowed a Danish truck company cross-border transports to Germany, another federal state extend its trial. In Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania the use of 25 meter mega trucks has once again been extended until the end of 2010. This was confirmed by a spokesperson of the Transport Ministry in Schwerin. Only in the state of Thuringia the Gigaliner trial on public roads will be ceased by the end of the year.
The conservative-liberal government of Germany had announced a "nationwide field trial" with longer and heavier trucks in its coalition agreement. A spokesman of Federal Transport Minister Peter Ramsauer said on request of the Pro-Rail Alliance that there are no concrete routes and no timetable for the trial at present.
A Precise idea about the upcoming nationwide trials with Gigaliners in Germany however has the trade association of the Danish international road haulage companies ITD. The ITD regards the special permit of Schleswig-Holstein as a “door opener" for a "corridor" solution. Longer and heavier trucks could then drive from Sweden to the Netherlands.
