The great majority of citizens oppose the introduction of mega trucks.
16 Nov 2010. According to the automobile club ARCD mega truck supporters and the German Ministry of Transport recently discussed the use of 26.5 metre long vehicles. In its recent press release the ARCD is referring to a participant of the meeting who reported that numerous truck lobby organisations demand an extension of the 25.25 metre limit to 26.5 metres.
The spokesman of transport minister Ramsauer, Sebastian Rudolph, denied plans to use even longer mega trucks in the trials planned for 2011. Rudolph told the Pro-Rail Alliance that there won’t be any trials with trucks longer than 25.25 metres.
Among the supporters of mega trucks, which recently formed the so called “Initiative for innovative commercial vehicles”, are indeed organisations which aim for 26.5 metre long and 60 tonnes heavy trucks. The road transport association BGL favours the use of 26.5 metre mega trucks and the foreign commerce and wholesale association BGA demands the admission of longer, heavier trucks with a weight of 60 tonnes.
