The great majority of citizens oppose the introduction of mega trucks.
More than ten Swiss cantons are rejecting the admission of mega trucks.
18 May 2010. After several Swiss cantons have positioned themselves against the admission of mega trucks already, the canton of Graubünden is now also taking a stand against longer and heavier trucks.
In a reply by the canton government to a parliamentary request it is stated that the road network is not suitable for the admission of oversized trucks. The costly extension of the road infrastructure for the 25 metre long and up to 60 tons heavy trucks, at taxpayer’s expenses, is out of question for the government: "The cost would be enormous and an adjustment would take decades."
Altogether more than ten Swiss cantons expressed their rejection of mega trucks already, amongst them many cantons along the heavily used north-south axes.
