These terms are deliberately misleading names used by supporters of longer and heavier vehicles. They help hide the facts and play-down the dangers posed by very long and very heavy trucks. Worse still, they try to associate mega trucks with positive attributes such as ecology and innovation.

However, longer and heavier trucks are not environmentally friendly. Their negative effects on the environment have been demonstrated in several studies, which can be found here

Nor are mega trucks innovative. They are not a new technical development but simply a longer and heavier version of the well known normal heavy goods vehicle. Mega trucks have also been around for many decades, for example in Scandinavia.
